I agree. In addition, many students who have middle class backgrounds struggle with math word problems because they can't break down a sentence correctly into phrases, which is essential in setting up many word problems. The more complicated the sentences involved are, the tougher the problem. I can only imagine how difficult it would be to do that for your students.
