i love encyclopedias. print encyclopedias may be on their way out, but one can get lots of them in digital form now. the encyclopedia britannica comes on DVD, and isn't even that expensive. and there are some weirdly fun ones: i just saw the mafia encyclopedia, and the encyclopedia of ancient and forbidden secrets (!)(not so secret anymore, i guess).
if you want one that is maintaining its relevance, there's the encyclopedia of internet technologies and applications. though i have no idea how up-to-date it is, *evil grin*.
